Paleontology

Welcome to the Paleontology Room. This site is not devoted to dinosaurs but to fossils. However, dinosaurs remain the most popular of all fossils and capture our imaginations the most. With the success of the three Jurassic Park movies, is there really any doubt. Do you think we will see a movie about ammonites or trilobites anytime soon?

For those of you who want to see a little more about dinosaurs click on the image below.

  DINOSAURS

Fossils can come in all shapes and sizes, both large and small, in one piece or in many pieces. To learn about fossils, including how they are formed, click on the image below.

For those of you interested in amateur fossil collecting, we will provide you with areas that you might want to visit for yourself to see what you can find. We will change these sites from time to time, adding additional ones, and omitting those that no longer seem to produce any good fossil finds. Click on the image for where to look for locations.

FOSSIL SITES

We also provide some helpful hints in hunting fossils. For those of you that want a little insight into the do’s and don’ts of hunting for fossils, or a little information that might be useful, then click on the icon below to go in that direction.

HELPFUL HINTS

A variety of fossils are available for your review and they include ammonites, bivalves, brachiopods, bryozoa, coral, crinoids, gastropods, sponges, trilobites, vertebrates and the unknown without classifying the fossils by genus and species. However, those of you who wish to provide us this information for our examples, please feel free to contact us. We will always be adding more from our collections, so keep visiting our site. Click on the fossil categories below to go to the sections on each of these subjects.

There are so many sites to see, that if a person looked at 20 web pages a day, it would take 11,000 years just to see everyone and that was on the web five years ago! At the rate that the web is expanding, will anyone ever see every page? With that in mind, here are some of sites that we find enjoyable.
Just click on the image to take you to that site.
Natural History Museum - Dallas
Natural History Museum - US

Natural History Museum - UK
UCal - Berkeley
