Welcome to our Archaeology Room. There would be no possible way to discuss all the discoveries and subjects of interest that everyone might have in the field of Archaeology. What we will do try to do is provide you with a few areas that have the greatest appeal, a few archaeological areas that seem to have a connection, and those areas that might be of greater importance in history. We are hoping that by providing such to you, we will have found one area in Archaeology that you have an interest, and that you will explore further.
Archaeology is partially the discovery and study of treasures from the past but not all of the treasure found are the type you would think of. Archaeology inspires our imagination into dreams and ideas of intrigue and adventure. Movies such the Indiana Jones series with Harrison Ford, who stars as this fictional character, inspires the notions of adventure and the romance involved with such archaeological undertakings. Mostly, it is just hard work, with long hours, and without luxuries in the field that one has back in one’s home.
Even John Wayne found himself acting in such a movie in “The Legend of the Lost” with Sophia Loren. It is the story of their efforts, along with Rosanno Brazzi, trying to locate a missing treasure in the ruins of ancient Timgrad. Once found, the treasure is then stolen by Brazzi, who leaves his partners Wayne and Loren in the middle of nowhere to die there. Fortunately, Wayne and Loren survive the ordeal, though Brazzi is not so lucky.

Not all of archaeology concerns treasures of gold or jewels, though it is about the wealth of information that can be learn about the past, by discovering and researching it. Thus, the items that are found are of great importance, in order to learn and understand about the past. Just what are these items? In more simplistic terms, think of the toy or comic book you might have now, or that you had as a child. As time passes, that item goes from an everyday, common place item, to what would be known as a collectable, as few items survive the passage of time. As more time passes, it becomes an antique. Think of all the antique stores that there are and what one can find in them. With yet more time passing, and fewer of the items surviving, the item now becomes a relic. To an archaeologist, they are called artifacts, and these artifacts are very valuable objects in understanding the past.

Just as with the Indiana Jones movies, there are certain areas, and certain periods of time that people do find of greater interest. With that in mind, we will provide you information and opportunities to learn more about such places. We will also try to provide you with a few other archaeological areas important or unique here in North America.

Hopefully, we have provided you with a glimpse into the past that has been of interest to you, and perhaps inspired you. If so, then visit your local museum, or plan a trip to visit a larger museum elsewhere. Many counties have a heritage museum and that can often offer a glimpse into the past for that area, and perhaps, a glimpse into a way of life before your own. That may inspire you to delve into your own past and heritage, which may lead you to yet another adventure into the past, and that being the ever popular field of genealogy.
One more archaeological subject we thought we would provide you a little information on are the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. They are not talked about as much these days, hidden behind all the new discoveries that have occurred in this century, as only one of the ancient wonders still survives mostly intact to this day. So click on the image on the image of the pyramids to read and glimpse at the past marvels of the ancient world.
The World Wide Web Virtual Library for Archaeology is an excellent resource for those who have an interest to explore archaeological resources available on the Internet. So, just click here, to go there.
To provide you with other resources on learning more about archaeology, we have also provided you with a few links to other sites that we hope you will find interesting, and inspire you to become a participant in the discovery and preservation of history.
