Genealogy

Welcome to our Genealogy Room. This room is dedicated to family history, from how to start working on making your own family tree, to expanding the information you already have by finding someone here with a common surname to you. Make yourself comfortable while you browse through our room.

Before proceeding further, we want to get out into the open, the good and bad sides of genealogy. In doing research, there are a few problems that you might encounter and a few precautions that you might want to take to avoid problems. If you are just starting out, and want to experience these problems anyway, do not click on Precautions.

If you are an experienced genealogist and you either do not want to think that such problems occur, or you do not want to be reminded of the same situations you might have experienced, do not click on the icon for Precautions. Otherwise click on the Precautions and hopefully you will learn from our mistakes and they will not be yours!

Rather than going into detail on all aspects of doing genealogy, we have provided you with several links that cover this subject well, and this should provide the general information that you will need. Just return to the previous page for these links. What we will just share with you is some of own personal observations and tips that you might find helpful and useful. You will want to click on Helpful Hints to see this.

HELPFUL HINTS

For some of us, doing genealogy is just an extension of what we do every day for a living, as we work in a field that seems to relate to genealogy and family history. Each of us has found, in the work we do, an application that we use genealogy research. It also gives us a broader understanding of how genealogy relates to history. To learn more about what these fields are and how they are related to genealogy, click on the Related Fields.

RELATED FIELDS

Many of us here have been doing genealogical research for a while and have compiled a great deal of information on their relatives and ancestors. Though we have shared as much as we could, with as many people as we could, we were always limited by the resources we had available to us. Now, with the Internet, all of our research can be made available to anyone who wants it, and free of charge! It will take us some time to make all of our information available, as we are busy creating GEDCOM files, which you will be able to access in the future.

Until then, we will provide you with the link below that will take you to a list of the surnames those of us who do genealogy are working on. These will only be some of the names available at this time. Due to such a large number of names we all have, most of the names provided will be either of direct lineage to us, surnames where a large amount of information was gathered, names of families that were connected more than once by marriage, or where the surname is just unusual enough that there is probably a connection with another person researching that same name. A few surnames may be where the research has stalled, without any futher current research, and we are just waiting for someone to come along with the helping hand and information needed.

Click on the surname sections below and you will go to the appropriate page with those surnames listed. Click on the surname on a page and you will get an e-mail box to send the researcher a short note on your area of interest. Be sure to include the surname in the message subject line.
